Definition of Flexibly Paced

Our flexible paced programs our designed to give the students flexibility, while ensuring that students maintain a pace that will allow them to be successful.

Our secondary courses are divided into weekly units.  The students have the flexibility to work at their pace within these weekly units, but must meet the assignment or contact deadlines.  This is similar to assignment deadlines in a face-to-face class.  If a student misses a deadline, they will receive a 0 for the assignment and will progress on to the next assignment.

Within the K-7 program, students and parents must commit to bi-weekly face-to face meetings at Helen Dixon Center.

Rationale for Flexibly Paced

It is our experience that few students experience success, or more than a minimal educational experience on a true self-paced program.

To deliver quality programs QDL has decided to combine the flexibility of DL courses with some of the structure of a face-to-face course.

To get the most out of an educational experience a student must be working throughout the course, (not just in sporadic chunks that can occur in a self-paced course).  Through immersing themselves in a learning environment a student will find that they have the time and focus for their brain to process the information.  The flexibly paced program also allows the QDL instructors greater opportunity to facilitate students application and practice of their learning.
